Leyla, recognised as one of Perth’s finest professional dancers and instructors in Middle Eastern Dance is described as a unique, dynamic and entertaining performer with a diverse repertoire and a passion for engaging her audience and students.
Leyla’s dance journey commenced in 1994 at the age of 14 with the Belyssa Academy of Danse Orientale in Perth, Western Australia. At the age of 19, Leyla started teaching casual classes and workshops. Over the past 16 years Leyla has immersed herself in the many facets of the dance and relishes exploring both the folkloric and classical elements of Danse Orientale.
Leyla has continued to strive for quality, service and professionalism in her teachings and performances culminating in being awarded both the Teaching and Professionalism Awards for the Belyssa Academy of DanseOrientale at the West Australian Oriental Dance Achievement Awards (Bellydance Oscars) in 2004.
Leyla continues her passion of sharing her knowledge and is a co-director of the Orphean’s Dance Studios and co-director of the Amiret El Zahara dance ensemble based in Midland, Western Australia.
Recent years have seen Leyla travel to Sydney in 2005 as well as Syria, Morocco, and Egypt in 2006 during the holy month of Ramadan to extend her dance and cultural experience. In 2009 Leyla will be returning to Sydney and Egypt to extend her dance and teachers training.
Some of Leyla’s choreographic work has been performed at various major Perth events such as the Harmony Day Concert at the Burswood Entertainment Complex Theatre.
